Kitchen Assistant Job Description
Position Title: Kitchen Assistant
Department: Kitchen
Reports To: Store Manager / Kitchen Manager
Location: [HONI POKE & SUSHI LIMASSOL ]
Position Summary:
A Kitchen Assistant supports the kitchen team by performing basic food preparation, cleaning, and organizational tasks to ensure smooth and efficient operations in the kitchen. The role requires a reliable, detail-oriented, and proactive individual who can maintain cleanliness, assist with ingredient preparation, and ensure all equipment is ready for use.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation Assistance:
Assist with the preparation of ingredients, including washing, peeling, chopping vegetables, and preparing meats or fish.
Help prepare and organize mise en place (ingredients, sauces, condiments) for cooking staff.
Follow instructions from chefs and other kitchen staff to ensure dishes are prepared efficiently.
Cleaning and Organization:
Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, utensils, and equipment regularly.
Wash dishes, pots, pans, and other kitchen tools.
Ensure proper waste disposal, including separating recyclables and composting where applicable.
Maintain a clean, organized kitchen environment according to food safety regulations.
Stock and Inventory Support:
Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing deliveries of ingredients and supplies.
Monitor stock levels and assist in keeping the kitchen well-stocked.
Help keep track of perishable items, ensuring that they are stored properly and used within safety timelines.
Assisting Chefs:
Help chefs during peak hours by delivering ingredients to the cooking stations.
Assist with plating and garnishing food as needed.
Support chefs in completing daily prep tasks and maintaining a steady workflow.
Equipment Maintenance:
Ensure that kitchen equipment is cleaned and well-maintained, notifying management of any broken or malfunctioning tools.
Assist in setting up and breaking down kitchen equipment for service.
Food Safety and Hygiene:
Adhere to food safety and sanitation standards in all aspects of food preparation and cleaning.
Ensure that all food items are stored at the correct temperature to maintain freshness.
Comply with all health and safety regulations, including wearing the proper uniform and protective gear.
Team Support:
Work collaboratively with chefs, kitchen staff, and servers to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
Assist with any other tasks as directed by senior kitchen staff.
Skills & Qualifications:
Previous Experience:
Previous kitchen experience is preferred but not required; on-the-job training will be provided.
Knowledge of Food Safety:
Basic knowledge of food hygiene, food safety, and sanitation practices.
Team Player:
Strong ability to work collaboratively with other kitchen and front-of-house staff.
Attention to Detail:
A good eye for detail, particularly in terms of cleanliness and organization.
Communication Skills:
Effective communication skills to understand tasks and relay any concerns or needs.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Physical stamina to lift and carry heavy items, such as boxes of food or kitchen supplies.
Manual dexterity to use kitchen tools and equipment.
Working Conditions:
Fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment.
Exposure to high heat, sharp knives, and other kitchen tools.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the restaurant’s schedule.
